Arctic Apple Soap

We brewed our Homestead Harvest tea double strength with bay laurel and cinnamon sticks, cooled it, froze it, and used it as the liquid the whole bar is built on. The rosehips, nettle, yarrow, and black spruce needle in that blend come off our homestead along the Little Susitna. They went into the kettle, and then they went into the soap.

The oils got the same treatment. We soaked dried apple and cinnamon bark in sweet almond oil for several weeks, warmed it slow to finish the infusion, and strained it clean before it ever met lye.

Cinnamon leaf essential oil carries the warmth. A little litsea keeps it from going heavy. The color is entirely its own doing, somewhere between cider and woodsmoke, with no colorant added.

Cured six weeks. Cut by hand.

About 36 bars exist. We will not make this one again this year.
